Finally... something I like is
actually good for me. Tea is reported to have many health benefits,
it can help prevent cancer, heart attack and stroke. It can even increase
your bone
density. Flavonoids, which give tea flavor, are antioxidant compounds.
Common green and black tea leaves consist of about 25-30 percent flavonoids. Green Tea has more flavonoids than black tea and white tea has more flavonoids than both of them. White tea has not been studied as long so there is less information available. I prefer the flavor of black tea to green so I often mix the two together. White Tea is the rarest and most delicate of tea. White tea represents the least processed form of tea. Unlike black and green teas, white tea is simply air dried in natural sunlight, this preserves more of its antioxidant properties. About three times as many antioxidant polyphenois as the green tea. Drinking white tea besides being more beneficial is a lot more palatable than green tea. Something many articles forget to tell you is you need to brew the tea at least 3 minutes! Steeping helps extract the healthy anti-oxidants in the tea more completely. Letting the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes extracts 69 - 85% of the flavonoids. Flavonoids degrade so you need to drink the tea right away. Flavonoids are not found in bottled or canned teas. |
